Some Laughed, Some Ran Like Mad

~ 15 April 2005 ~

John Leonard tells me he didn’t laugh when he took the Insanity Test yesterday. In fact, he shuddered. John writes, “If you lived in Ireland you would know that the background sound for that is a mobile phone ringtone called ‘Crazy Frog’ from a company called Jamster. On the TV here in the prime 6-15 demographic advertising slot, that blasted advert, featuring that blasted ringtone, plays in every ad break. I live in constant fear of somebody’s phone actually playing that ringtone within my earshot — I would surely make them eat it.”

Apparently the guy who came up with it isn't too apologetic:

I hate that bloody frog. And the little tweety bird.

Those ring tones have made bus journeys just plain dangerous. At any moment, a couple of teenagers could explode in riotous laughter at their "deadly ring tone!".

Interestingly enough, the animated 3D frog had a penis. Said penis was:

a) Not anatomically correct (frogs don't have a penis)
b) Hilariously blocked out with an enormous black "censored" bar, that moves and retains alignment relative to the frogs hips.

Now, you'll have to excuse me. I just typed "frog penis" into google, and I feel the urge to scrub my brain clean with some Ajax floor cleaner.

You know, I was actually pondering whether there'd be a possibility for the creator(s) of the Insanity Test (of which I think it's been years since I first saw it) to friggin' sue those Jamster bastards. I immidiately recognized the sound when I first saw the 'Crazy Frog' commercial (on which said sound is infinitely more annoying).

..and yes, I recall failing the test when I did encounter it for the first time. Now, it only makes me mildly depressed. Thanks, Jamster! (Asses.)
