GGiving To Hiram mini-site

~ 12 May 2005 ~

A bit of small news, but perhaps still worthy of a click.

The Giving To Hiram portion of Hiram.edu just received a facelift. The design was completed roughly two months ago, and then Jon Linczak wrestled with the code, content, and other deliverables before today’s launch.

Jon was kind enough to allow me to introduce a bit of “stately elegance” not previously used elsewhere on the site, but fitting for the section’s focus (charitable donations).

And no, surprisingly, Josuha isn’t misspelled.

Wow! Now that I like!

It looks absolutely fantastic.

Phew! Your presence is so obvious here. I like those details (they are ‘those details’, since I don’t know how you English speakers call it) on top and below headlines. And it’s amazing how a single subtle gradient can make a difference.

What are “Those Details” as Marko stated called? Anyone really know?

I believe you’re referring to the ornate lines, and they’re often called vignettes.

Thanks Cameron! Since we’re here, I was wondering if there is some kind of online design dictionary?

6   Cameron Moll ~ 13 May 2005 at 09:31 AM

Not that I’m aware of. Though I would like to see Apple tackle that (via Zeldman).

Perhaps it’s just me, but do you have any idea why the site doesn’t load if I just type “hiram.edu” instead of “www.hiram.edu”. It says connection refused, not server not found.

Very nicely done. I really like it.

@Wesley - that’s probably a server misconfiguration.

@Mr Moll (& friends) - very nicely done. It doesn’t scream ‘gimme money!’, which can be a rather difficult trick when asking for donations.

I’ve notified Jon of the no www issue. Thanks for catching.

Nice added bit of elegance …and Josuha? Wow. I can’t say in all my days of running into other Joshua’s I’ve ever met anybody with that name.
