23   jacob harvey ~ 21 October 2005 at 08:41 AM

Whew nobody used my idea…

great designers… sip coffee and ponder what to do next… then they have their production assistant army redesign it for them…

Seriously though I’d say great designers redesign as their mood fancies. Unless he/she’s totally full of him/herself there’s gonna be a redesign at some point because of evolving tastes, etc.

The questions has been discussed before but I think it’s more of a question of what a redesign is. I always consider it a total overhaul, not necessarily changing things that work. Some poeple just change their color scheme and header image and call it a day.

Every designer’s JOB is to motivate. “Click here, buy now, save the rainforest, think about me, pick me, feel good, smile or cry.” That is the minimum.

What truely great designers do is *INSPIRE*

68   Drew McLellan ~ 21 October 2005 at 03:21 PM

… can’t make bail.

69   Drew McLellan ~ 21 October 2005 at 03:22 PM

OK, serious guess.

Great Designers are dead already.

77   Lee Dale ~ 21 October 2005 at 07:10 PM

All jokes aside (I mean, humour is always the correct answer, right), I have to say that I believe 34 Lief and 67 Curtis are on the right path.

Lief said “Great Designers just solve problems.”
Curtis said “What truely great designers do is *INSPIRE*”

Really if you’re not effecting positive change (mankind can arguably never be static, so change is required), you’re not great. And design is the most powerful method of change. Design effects transportation, interaction, consumption; matter of fact, all aspects of life.

But that makes everyone a designer, right?

And “redesign”. Well that could encompass inspiring and problem solving and effecting change.

Right, so language sucks.

Therefore, good designers redesign; great designers resolve semantic issues.

Thank you. I’ll stop thinking now before I light on fire.

78   Daniel ~ 21 October 2005 at 07:44 PM

…continue designing.

79   BigA ~ 21 October 2005 at 07:47 PM
