  • Masticate.
  • Expectorate.
  • Defecate.
  • Medicate
  • Master-
er - write another great article for ALA.

Or…

6   Cameron Moll ~ 17 November 2005 at 09:45 AM

Heh, quite funny, Steven. I’d say there was a point to the last one, no? There just might be a point to this one, too…

7   Jason Santa Maria ~ 17 November 2005 at 09:47 AM

Communicate.

8   Rick Moore ~ 17 November 2005 at 09:48 AM

9   Brian Morris ~ 17 November 2005 at 09:55 AM

11   Steven Woosd ~ 17 November 2005 at 10:06 AM

Communicate!

Seriously - Jason Santa Maria is totally on the ball here … and it ties into an article I’m about to publish as soon as I get time to fix my speelign mitsakes!

Eliminate.

Eliminate the roadblocks.
Eliminate the non-essential.
Eliminate the hassles.
Eliminate the confusion.
Eliminate the fear.

16   dave texidor ~ 17 November 2005 at 10:24 AM

communicate. (effectively—which should go without saying). :-)

19   kemie ~ 17 November 2005 at 10:35 AM

was also going to go for communicate, so i’ll settle for

connect

20   Dave Simon ~ 17 November 2005 at 10:37 AM

Ooh, I know this one, it’s either “realign” or “let their wives do it, to avoid a fight.”

21   Josh ~ 17 November 2005 at 10:44 AM

illuminate

22   Jeremy Fuksa ~ 17 November 2005 at 10:44 AM

Blend.
Innovate.
Enjoy a lovely cocktail.

23   MojoMark ~ 17 November 2005 at 10:50 AM

It doesn’t rhyme, but a great designer will…

architect a briliant foundation for growth

24   Joshua Kendall ~ 17 November 2005 at 10:53 AM

Educate?

25   Zac Kirby ~ 17 November 2005 at 10:56 AM

26   Jørgen Arnor Gårdsø Lom ~ 17 November 2005 at 10:57 AM

I want to say “drink a lot of coffee, and work long hours to get the job done” - but I think Jason is right about ‘communicate’…

And if he is, this is going to be yet another ‘Moll classic article’.

27   Peter ~ 17 November 2005 at 11:02 AM

Make me feel inferior? No no, seriously now, lets go with my favorite Super Troopers quote-word:

Enhance.

28   cpk ~ 17 November 2005 at 11:03 AM

…Sanguinate

But seriously folks:

Create Solutions

I would still vote for Jason’s entry though

29   Kim Siever ~ 17 November 2005 at 11:08 AM

31   Phil Balchin ~ 17 November 2005 at 11:17 AM

“Tell the Good designers HOW to do the decorating”. Then write a book, which they’ll sell to the good designers about how to do new things like paint, wax and varnish.

32   Jake Pellegren ~ 17 November 2005 at 11:17 AM

33   Olly ~ 17 November 2005 at 11:20 AM

35   Richard Medek ~ 17 November 2005 at 11:23 AM

Oh, no, you’re not getting me with this one again:

Good designers decorate, great designers post a fill-in-the-blanks type article, wait for awhile, then find a word no one’s picked yet and write an article for ALA.

Come on, don’t deny it… :)

36   Nik ~ 17 November 2005 at 11:34 AM

Continue hammering away at the ‘skeleton’ of the site? As in, the layout, etc.

37   Seth ~ 17 November 2005 at 12:02 PM

Remodel

38   Chris ~ 17 November 2005 at 12:08 PM

minimize.

39   Chris K ~ 17 November 2005 at 12:09 PM

This is beginning to sound like that INXS song from Kick. alleviate, designate, try not to hate…. everyone.

40   Nathan ~ 17 November 2005 at 12:38 PM

Recreate or communicate? I would bet money it ends in ate.

41   Cameron Moll ~ 17 November 2005 at 12:39 PM

Richard - Yes, exactly.

42   Scott ~ 17 November 2005 at 12:43 PM

Extrapolate. (To infer or estimate by extending or projecting known information.)

Okay, maybe not entirely accurate, but it sounds cool.

43   dave ~ 17 November 2005 at 12:51 PM

View-Source :)

44   Drew McLellan ~ 17 November 2005 at 01:09 PM

Associate.

As in, not only making visual items work together, but also make associations with the experiences or feelings that the viewer/user has encountered before. Both on a technical and a creative level.

45   Steve Woods ~ 17 November 2005 at 01:12 PM

55   Lanny Heidbreder ~ 17 November 2005 at 02:07 PM

Josh (Comment #21) has it. Illuminate.

Brilliant.

(Incidentally, Cameron, your copyright date Roman numeral at the bottom is 11 months out of date. Unless you meant to refer to the original year of the design. Unless this design is older than 2004, in which case it’s still out of date.)

56   Cameron Moll ~ 17 November 2005 at 02:16 PM

Ugh. Can’t believe I still haven’t fixed that. Thanks.

57   Chip D ~ 17 November 2005 at 02:17 PM

64   Matt ~ 17 November 2005 at 03:24 PM

Dessimate? use white phosphorous.

Although more likely, Renovate.

65   Jordan ~ 17 November 2005 at 03:27 PM

I design because I don’t want to do anything else. People will forgive many things if you try hard and communicate passion.

All the technical mumbo will come…

74   YaaL ~ 17 November 2005 at 07:59 PM

Extrapolate? I’d go for “communicate”, but it’s already taken \:

But seriously, do we need another buzzword?

75   bob ~ 17 November 2005 at 08:12 PM

Hallucinate
Dessegregate
Mediate
Alleviate
Try not to hate

Love your mate
Don’t suffocate on your own hate
Designate your love as fate
A one world state
As human freight
The number eight
A white black state
A gentle trait
The broken crate
A heavy weight
Or just too late
Like pretty Kate has sex ornate
Now devastate
Appreciate
Depreciate
Fabricate
Emulate
The truth dilate
Special date
The animal we ate
Guilt debate
The edge serrate
A better rate
The youth irate
Deliberate

Fascinate
Deviate
Reinstate
Liberate
To moderate
Recreate
Or detonate
Annihiliate
Atomic fate

Mediate
Clear the state
Activate
Now radiate
A perfect state
Food on plate
Gravitate
The Earth’s own weight
Designate your love as fate
At ninety-eight we all rotate

Hallucinate
Dessegregate
Mediate
Alleviate
Try not to hate

Love your mate
Don’t suffocate on your own hate
Designate your love as fate
A one world state
As human freight
The number eight

98   Darren ~ 18 November 2005 at 12:15 PM

I don’t know exactly what the word will be, but I bet it will be something along the lines of not being focused only with style. Design is more than just decoration.

99   Jens Meiert ~ 18 November 2005 at 02:08 PM

…come too late.

100   Sean Sperte ~ 18 November 2005 at 03:16 PM

108   Jules ~ 19 November 2005 at 09:06 AM

Anyone try reading Bob’s comment (#75) without falling into a RAP rhythm?

I like both “communicate” and “illuminate”.

109   Bob ~ 19 November 2005 at 10:06 AM

That’s because it’s an INXS song… maybe a little before your time. ;-) And that makes me feel REALLY old…

110   Jeff ~ 19 November 2005 at 10:57 AM

Great designers advocate, of course.

122   Territan ~ 21 November 2005 at 06:13 AM

“Good Designers Decorate, Great Designers Accentuate.”

I’m going to take a wild guess that this’ll be another “less is more” piece. Perhaps contrasting adding points of unimportant interest to a page versus highlighting existing important points of interest? If so, I look forward to it.

And if not, well, I’ll still look forward to it.

123   Andrew ~ 21 November 2005 at 03:03 PM

“Good Designers Decorate, Great Designers… Finished that project along time ago.”

A Great designer communicates the necessary ideas effictively and immediately, which allows them time to go back and work on the small intricate details, which in turn make them a Great designer. it’s all cyclical.
